Monospace font generator for X
Monospace letters look like code or a typewriter, every character the same width. X has no code formatting, so this is the way to make a command or a name look like one.

When to use it
Developers use it for a command, a function name or a file name inside a post, the way you would wrap it in backticks anywhere else.
It also has a dry, typed look that works for a single deadpan line. Keep real code you want people to copy in plain text, though. Styled characters wonโt run in a terminal.
Monospace letters are a lookalike, not code. If people need to copy and run it, paste the plain version or a screenshot instead.
What styled text costs on X
These are not fonts in the usual sense. They are different characters that happen to look like styled letters, and X treats them that way.
| Where | Works | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Posts and replies | Yes | Each styled letter counts as 2 of your 280, so keep it to a line. |
| Display name | Yes | 50 characters at most, and styled letters use them twice as fast. |
| Bio | Yes | 160 characters. A styled job title or one styled word is plenty. |
| @handle | No | Handles only take plain letters, numbers and underscores. |
| Hashtags | No | A styled hashtag is not a hashtag. X wonโt link it or count it. |
| Search | Poorly | Search looks for plain letters, so styled words are hard to find. |
The bigger cost is reading. Screen readers either skip these characters or read them out one by one, as in โmathematical bold capital Hโ. A styled word is fine. A styled post shuts out the people who listen to X rather than read it, and many people do. Keep the important part in plain text and use styles for decoration around it.
For the same reason, donโt put the point of a post in styled text. If the post only works when people can read the styled line, it doesnโt work for everyone. To see how much of the limit a whole post uses, paste it into the tweet character counter.
Questions
How do I write code on X?
X has no code blocks. For a short name or command, monospace characters look right. For anything people will run, use plain text or an image, since the styled characters are not the real ones.
Does monospace text have numbers?
Yes, Unicode has monospace digits, so the whole line keeps the same look.
Does it count double on X?
Yes. Each monospace letter or digit counts as two of the 280.
